young monks in service . It was explained to me that it was expected that all
Thai male Buddhists would serve three years as monks but that was reduced to as
little as six month period for the poorer folks The prior King of Thailand (
brother of the present King )had a special White Marble Temple built on the
Palace Grounds in Bangkok to fulfill his three years . |

fellows outside the gate were illegal immigrants Laotian ,Cambodian . It was
said for fifty dollars you could have some one you did not like badly beaten
may be killed for 50 dollars American . Ps the JKeep was Ramasan Station

Holmes that was a mistake on my part his last name is Hooper most people called
him " Hoop " . |

Don Babets Rescuing a water buffalo that fell in a village well . The 7TH RRFS
provided the tow truck and slings that was used to retrieve this valuable farm
implement . The hero was this unidentified Thai whose head and shoulders would
disappear in the water under the buffalo's body twice to position the slings to
lift it . There is an American in the group shot I don't know . Finally the
creature is out and unharmed by its fall . |

Grover Smith at a neglected but not forgotten temple ruins between
Ramasan and Udorn notice that Buddha image is dressed and you can see
the gold gilding squares that are rubbed on by people who either are
asking for something or are thanking for receiving favor . Sp5 Grover
Smith R&R Bangkok palace grounds . We rented the coats and if neede ties
at the gate as that was the required dress for entering the grounds . My

0delivering material for Public Relations purposes . The Army Civil
Affairs would give material only for civil projects the village had to
provide volunteer labor . Most common purpose was village meeting halls
(concrete hand mixed floors and tin roof no walls) material to build
play grounds for public schools and material for black boards ( wood
special paint ) and desks. Sgt Mac teaching English class . The man in
